Summary: This role provides electrical expertise in the design and implementation of electronic systems within a production floor environment. Focus on R&D, design, testing and procurement of electronic components, products, and systems by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Including the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Main responsibility is to be a resource for all plant personnel regarding testing, validation, and design of electronic components/products
  • Alters standard designs to meet custom requirements imposed by dealers, maintaining compliance to all applicable codes. (Elevator, CSA, UL, etc.)
  • Develops and designs test control apparatus, equipment, and components for use in house as well as at contract manufacturers
  • Creates procedural instructions for testing products in a production environment
  • Designs and maintains circuit board schematics and PCB layouts using OrCAD design software
  • Creates custom PLC programs for production and R&D streams. (Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley etc.)
  • Maintain setpoint files for motor inverters/Variable Frequency Drives. (Yaskawa & Mitsubishi)
  • Installs prototype units in R&D, conducts approval tests, and creates summary reports
  • Works with technical writer to review accuracy of product manuals. (Installation, Planning Guides, etc.
  • Trains product engineers, drafters, and technical support personnel on newly released products
  • Evaluates production processes and recommends design modifications to engineering, with the focus on eliminating failures
  • Maintains electrical documentation at a project level
  • Revising and updating BOM’s, routing, harness assembly drawings & electrical schematics
  • Provide specifications to purchasing, particulars include manufacturer P/N’s, electrical spec. values etc.
  • Works with technical support department to eliminate issues in the field and implement changes to better production processes
  • Analyzes ECR (Engineering Change Requests) and performs ECO (Engineering Change Orders) as required
  • Uses computer assisted engineering design software to perform engineering tasks and complete engineering documentation
  • Develops & maintains CSA, UL & QPS production criteria for quarterly on-site inspections


Education and/or Experience:

  • Electrical Engineer (B. Eng), PEO (P. Eng) licensed preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience in elevators and/or lifting devices preferred.


  • High degree of electrical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of basic electrical systems, engineering, and manufacturing practices.


  • AutoCAD design software.
  • OrCAD PCB design software.
  • Rockwell Automation Connected Components Workbench PLC software.
  • Siemens LOGO Soft Comfort PLC software
