The HR Specialist coordinates recruitment and job placement activities along with administration and coordination of employee benefit plans for the organization. Coordinates employee-related programs/events and assists with training, onboarding, and other Human Resources functions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Embrace the company’s core values and core purpose
  • Maintain confidentiality related to sensitive company and employee information
  • Develops and implements programs, plans, policies and procedures for recruitment, testing, selection and job placement
  • Confers with management and supervisors to identify personnel needs, job specifications, job duties, qualifications and skills
  • Develops recruitment programs to attract applicants and fill specific job openings
  • Works with local schools to promote the company and provide internship opportunities
  • Develops and maintains contacts with educational institutions, employment agencies, placement firms and other sources of applicants
  • Reviews resumes, screens applicants, schedules and conducts interviews, coordinates assessments, conducts background checks, coordinates drug screens and provides information about the position and organization
  • Develops and implements new employee onboarding programs
  • Prepares and maintains employee personnel files
  • Maintains HRIS system
  • Administers and coordinates employee benefit programs including medical insurance, flexible spending accounts, dental insurance, vision insurance, short-term/long-term disability insurance, life insurance, 401(k) plan, workers’ compensation, FMLA, Cobra, employee assistance program and other plans
  • Partners and collaborates across the organization developing professional, productive, and trustworthy relationships
  • Assist in planning and coordinating employee-related programs and company events
  • Maintains knowledge of government regulations, pending legislation, prevailing practices and trends
  • Maintains and continually improves internal HR Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the HR Generalist


  • AS degree in Human Resources, Business or related field
  • Experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for education
  • Two (2) years’ experience in Human Resources and/or benefits administration
  • Knowledge of recruiting practices and applicable federal and state laws and regulations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all types of people
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism and diplomacy
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite applications (Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Word) and learn an HRIS system
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Critical thinking skills
