The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s health, is seeking a detail-oriented individual to manage file conversions and updates for digital publications and coordinate activities with platform and conversion vendors. As part of the Professional and Consumer Publishing team at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL, this role will work remotely until at least March 25, 2022, with most likely a hybrid re-entry plan. All individuals must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by first day of employment. 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Publishing, some tasks include:
1.  Develop and manage eBook, ePub, and XML conversion processes and schedules.
2.  Develop digital eBooks from printer files and update as necessary.
3.  Develop and manage XML files as needed for all digital publication products.
4.  Coordinate ongoing updates to eBook online site, including new product setups and collections management.
5.  Analyze and select content conversion vendors based on AAP needs for digital output.
6.  Assess and negotiate with vendors on an ongoing basis to ensure best practices, quality, and costs.
7.  Coordinate with digital publication hosting platforms and retailers to upload, review, and maintain publication files.
8.  Oversee quality control of digital formats. 
9.  Coordinate file updates when changes occur in print edition title.
10. Ensure completion of accurate and thorough metadata for AAP publications.
11. Work with AAP Publishing staff to make changes in eBook and other digital files as needed.
12. Assist in implementation of continual workflow improvements.


Qualifications needed:
1.  Bachelor’s degree in digital media, communications, marketing, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
2.  At least two years’ related experience in coordinating or managing digital production processes required, including metadata management and file conversion, preferably in a publishing environment. Experience with HTML, XML and electronic and online publishing preferred.
3.  Must be detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain a high degree of accuracy, work both independently and as part of a team, take initiative, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Excellent interpersonal, organization, diplomacy, and verbal/written communication skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, database management, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and digital production platforms, as well as the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with utilizing various file formats such as ePub and XML and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred. Some evening/weekend work and travel may be required.
