Summary & Key Responsibilities

The Commercial Lines Risk Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing risk quality evaluations and consultative risk improvement services for middle market, small commercial, and farm & ranch accounts. Work may include specialty services for a variety of industries and risk factors (e.g. construction, manufacturing) and lines of business (e.g. workers' compensation). This is a field-based role working from a remote home office and with potential travel within ND, SD, IA, MN, WI, and NE. Work may include completion of virtual risk quality evaluations.Key Responsibilities:

1. Document accurate and detailed information in risk engineering survey reports and provide underwriting with a clear understanding of the risk's operations, exposures and controls.
2. Assist clients in developing and implementing measures to reduce costs associated with losses and improve the safety culture and overall morale of the organization.
3. Provide technical expertise regarding training and education in loss prevention and safety for both internal and external partners.
4. Provide customer service for all commercial lines of business and implement
comprehensive risk management safety programs by analyzing data, developing
accident investigation procedures, implementing corrective actions and identifying root causes and trends and creating safety programs for minimizing losses.
5. While primarily a field based position, this role may also engage in execution of alternative survey processes including virtual surveys and self-inspections.
6. Collaborate with business partners and act as a trusted adviser in the areas of risk engineering and loss prevention for new business acquisitions and account retention.
7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
8. In some situations, the role may require the specialist to be a department subject matter expert for a specific line of business or focus area.


Minimum Experience / Education:
1. BA/BS in an Insurance related area of study or equivalent experience. A professional industry designation (e.g., CSP, ALCM, CFPS, ARM, etc.) is preferred.
2. Must be willing to pursue a professional industry designation (CSP, ALCM, ARM, CFPS,etc.).
3. Minimum 3 years of experience in P&C risk engineering or other relevant commercial insurance business operations or industry related safety experience.

Communication and Collaboration Skills:
1. Written: Excellent skills composing and procedural writing reports, proposals, business correspondence, technical bulletins and manuals in a clear and concise manner.
2. Oral: Excellent skills extemporaneously explaining complex information in an easily understandable manner to insureds, agents and internal business partners.
3. Ability to effectively communicate with tact, diplomacy and courtesy across multiple levels of business partners, customers and agents.
4. Excellent presentation skills.

Technical Knowledge:
1. Excellent technical knowledge of industry trends, developments, current standards and regulations in multiple areas.
2. Excellent understanding of risk engineering services of accounts of less complexity.
3. Loss Control 360 or other risk engineering software experience is a plus.

Problem Solving:
1. Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills.
2. Strong project management skills.
